Mumbai: Speaking about the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, famous lyricist Javed Akhtar’s clear observations have angered Akhtar as well as the Sangh and BJP-affiliated organizations. We publicly protest the manner in which they are being intimidated, in the words of 150 eminent thinkers from various fields.
Stating that their right to vote should be safeguarded, he also expressed his support to Javed Akhtar and Naseeruddin Shah. Teesta Setalvad, Amir Rizvi, Anand Patwardhan, Anjum Rajabali are some of the dignitaries involved in this.
There are similarities in the thinking of all right-wingers around the world, be they Christians, Sikhs, Hindus or Muslims. This bitter mentality becomes more apparent when their views are openly expressed about the place of women in the family or society. The current mentality of the Taliban is more violent and extreme, and in the last few years, such violent incidents by the Sangh Parivar have come to be seen as ‘Hindu Taliban’, the current situation is described in such clear terms. He also said that the controversy surrounding Javed Akhtar’s interview and at the same time the video of Naseeruddin Shah’s old interview appearing on social media could not be ignored.
He was criticized by the Muslim community for his views. Indian Islam is different from Islamic religions around the world. Do we need modern thinking and reform in our religion or do we want to increase Karmath Dharma thinking? This should be considered, said Shah.
These thinkers have taken the role of supporting Shah’s statement and the views expressed by Javed Akhtar, pointing out that he is trying to present important ideas to the society.
