A fifth-sixth route is being constructed on the Central Railway through MRVC to provide separate routes for mail-express trains.
Mumbai: The Thane-Diva 5th-6th route, which has been under discussion for the last 12 years, is being speeded up by the Mumbai Railway Development Corporation (MRVC) and Central Railway. A ten-hour mega block on the Central Railway will be taken up on Sunday for this work. A senior official said Central Railway had requested the state government to provide extra bus service as many local trains would be canceled.
A fifth-sixth route is being constructed on the Central Railway through MRVC to provide separate routes for mail-express trains. Therefore, the journey from Thane to Kalyan as well as from CSMT for local trains will be easier. So far work on the fifth and sixth routes from Kalyan to Diva and Thane to Kulra has been completed. In the last ten years, work on Thane to Diva 5th and 6th routes has been extended several times. While March 2019 was the deadline, it was changed from time to time. MRVC and Central Railway have set a target of completing the work by December 2021 or March next year.
A major official said that a large number of mega blocks would have to be taken up in the next few months, along with other technical works, including the rail connection of these corridors. It is planned to take a ten-hour mega block from Diva to Thane on Sunday 26th September. This will also affect the schedule of locals going to and from CSMT. Along with this block, five blocks will be taken in the month of October and they will be taken at night. In November and December too, there will be big mega blocks lasting more than 10 hours.
