Announced by the Central Government ‘Agneepath ‘plan The Army has informed that the Agnipath scheme will not be canceled and the recruitment process will be started soon under this scheme. The Army also clarified that it is mandatory to issue a certificate of non-participation in violence and vandalism to the youth before recruitment. A joint press conference was held today on behalf of all the three armies. This information was given by Lieutenant General Anil Puri while speaking in it.
Satyagraha movement from Congress
For the last few days, agitations have been going on across the country against the Agneepath scheme. In many places, these movements have taken a violent turn. In Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Telangana, youths have vandalized and set fire to railway coaches. The agitation has caused extensive damage to public property as well as government property. Today, a satyagraha is being held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi demanding withdrawal of Agniveer Yojana from the Congress party. Many Congress leaders including Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi are present in this satyagraha.
Increase in the age limit of firefighters
In view of the growing opposition to the scheme, the central government has announced several provisions in the scheme. The age limit for this scheme has been increased by two years. Also, 10 per cent space has been reserved for firefighters in the Ministry of Defense and Coast Card. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has approved a proposal to reserve 10 per cent of the jobs in the Defense Ministry for firefighters who meet the eligibility criteria. The Army has clarified that this reservation will be in addition to the existing reservation for ex-servicemen.
The army needs young people with vigor and intelligence
The recruitment process for the Air Force will start from June 24 under the Agneepath scheme. The Indian Army has also said that it will soon issue a notification regarding the recruitment process. Puri said that by 2050, 50 per cent of the population will be under 50 years of age, so the army needs young people with vigor and intelligence.
