BJP’s statewide agitation for OBC reservation

Warning not to let ministers go; Reply from Nana Patole

Mumbai: Criticizing the state government’s refusal to give political reservation to the OBC community, the BJP on Wednesday staged agitation in various places across the state targeting the Mahavikas Aghadi government. Congress state president Nana Patole said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis were the killers of OBC reservation.

BJP state vice president and MP Dr. Pritam Munde, MLA Sanjay Kute, Balasaheb Sanap, State General Secretary Chandrasekhar Bavankule, MLA Atul Save, Gopichand Padalkar, MP Ramdas Tadas, Sunil Mendhe and many other people’s representatives and office bearers of the party had participated in the agitation. The agitation warned that the ministers in the alliance government would not be allowed to return if the state government did not take an immediate decision and rescind the OBC reservation.

The Election Commission has declared by-elections for local bodies in Dhule, Nandurbar, Washim, Akola and Nagpur. These elections will be held without OBC reservation. Had the state government submitted the imperial data to the court in time, the reservation of the OBC community would have been maintained. But due to the policy of the Mahavikas Aghadi government, the OBC community has given up political reservation, said Chandrasekhar Bavankule and warned to intensify the fight.

Modi, Fadnavis are the killers of OBC reservation

The BJP’s agitation on the issue of reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the state is a drama. State Congress president Nana Patole accused the Narendra Modi government at the Center and the then Fadnavis government of being assassins. Patole criticized the Center for not providing caste-wise census data and the then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had issued a circular postponing the Zilla Parishad elections, threatening the political reservation of OBCs not only in Maharashtra but in the country. Patole also alleged that the BJP’s ideology at the behest of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was against reservation and that it was a ploy to deprive the OBC community of power by removing the political reservation of OBCs.
