Centre’s squads soon to inspect Assam; Union Home Minister Amit Shah discusses with Chief Minister Sarma

Guwahati:Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday telephoned Assam Chief Minister Himant Biswa Sarma twice to take stock of the situation caused by heavy rains and floods in Assam. Central teams will soon visit the state to inspect the flood damage, Shah told Sarma.

Assam has had a severe backlog for over a week. The floods have affected 43 lakh people in 33 out of 36 districts of the state. So far this year, 73 people have been killed in floods and landslides in the state. The transportation system has collapsed. Sarma said on Twitter that he had a discussion with Shah. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also contacted Sarma on Saturday and promised to provide all necessary assistance to overcome the situation.
