Importantly, Channy will be the first Dalit Chief Minister of Punjab.

The names of Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Navjyot Singh Sidhu and Sunil Jakhar were discussed for the post of Chief Minister of Punjab. The most talked about name was Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. However, the Congress has given a chance to Charanjit Singh Channy, a Dalit leader from Punjab, to become the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, who has been the most talked about since the election of Charanjit Singh Channy, has reacted. “It is a decision of the high command and I welcome it. Channy is like my little brother. I’m not disappointed, “he said.

Channy was the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly when the Akali Dal and the BJP were in power in the state. He is the MLA of Chamkaur Sahib constituency and as the Minister he was in charge of Technical Education and Industrial Training, Employment Generation and Training and Tourism and Cultural Affairs. He had also raised his voice against Amarinder Singh as the former chief minister was not paying attention to the issues raised by the party leaders.

Charanjit Singh Channy has left for Raj Bhavan from JW Marriott Hotel in Chandigarh. “I will speak after leaving the Raj Bhavan,” he said. So, Channy’s family has also entered outside the Raj Bhavan.
