BJP demands apology
Mumbai: Organizations like Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal have the same target as the Taliban and the Indian Constitution is coming towards their goal, said renowned poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar. The BJP has demanded an apology from Akhtar.
RSS, Vishwa Hindu Parishad are Taliban minded. Those who support them should introspect. If given a chance, they will cross the border, Javed Akhtar had said in an interview. BJP leaders have strongly objected to this and demanded to withdraw the statement. Mumbai BJP MLA in-charge Atul Bhatkhalkar has warned to file a defamation suit against Akhtar if he does not withdraw the apology. Akhtar’s statement is wrong, not only is it an insult to the Hindu community. Living in a Hindu-majority country, he is criticizing the Taliban. “If you have the courage, go to Afghanistan and criticize the Taliban,” Bhatkhalkar said. BJP state president Chandrakant Patil has criticized Javed Akhtar’s statement as objectionable.
What did Akhtar say?
Regarding Muslims who support the Taliban, Javed Akhtar said, “I do not remember their statements. But few Muslims have backed the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan. I was shocked to hear his statements. Most young Muslims in India today want a good job and a good school for their children. On the other hand, there are those who support reactionary thinking. “Where there is discrimination between men and women, they are promoting reactionary thinking.”
