Deshmukh’s petition to be heard before bench

Mumbai: Former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh’s plea against summons issued by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in a financial malpractice case should be heard before a bench, not a single bench, the apex court said on Tuesday. The court also directed the registrar’s office to file Deshmukh’s petition before the appropriate bench for hearing.

Deshmukh has filed a petition seeking cancellation of the action taken by the ED and the summons issued so far. However, considering the nature of the issue in the petition, the petition should come to the bench for hearing instead of a single bench, the Registrar’s Office of the High Court had noted. Justice Sandeep Shinde, while ruling in the case, clarified that the objection was justified.
