Eight killed in university shooting in Russia

Eight people were killed and several others were injured in a shooting by gunmen at a university in the Russian city of Perm on Monday morning, Russia’s Investigative Committee said.

The Interior Ministry said the gunmen were taken into custody. The Perm State University media service said the shooters had advanced firearms. These guns are used for rubber or plastic bullets but they can be converted for different uses. University students and staff locked themselves in rooms. Anyone who could leave the premises was appealed to. Some students jumped out of windows, the news agency said. Exactly how many people were injured is not understood. According to unofficial information, 6 to 14 people were injured in the attack. But he could not understand whether he was injured or jumped out of the window. Perm is 1100 km east of Moscow and has a population of one million. The university has a total of twelve thousand students. The gunmen have not been identified. The motive behind the shooting is not clear. A similar shooting in Kazan in May killed seven students and two teachers.
