Former Parliamentary Officer Rajiv Agarwal has been appointed as the Public Policy Director of Facebook

New Delhi: Facebook India on Monday announced the appointment of Rajiv Agarwal, a former chartered accountant and former chief executive of Uber, as its director of public policy. He will replace Ankhi Das, who resigned in October last year. He was embroiled in controversy over his opposition to the imposition of rules on hate speech against the country’s right-wing leaders. Agarwal will define policy development initiatives. And will implement them. This will include user safety, data protection and privacy, Facebook said in a statement.

In this role, Agarwal will play the role of Ajit Mohan, Vice President and Managing Director, Facebook India, and will be part of the Indian leadership team. He has previously served as Uber’s head of public policy for India and South Asia, the statement said.

Agarwal has 26 years of experience as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and has served as District Magistrate in nine districts in Uttar Pradesh.
