Funeral of Mahant Narendra Giri

After about two and a half hours of autopsy, the report was presented to the senior police officer in a sealed envelope.

A.B. The last rites of Akhada Parishad President Mahant Narendra Giri were performed at Baghambari Math in Allahabad on Wednesday. Two days ago, he was found strangling his disciples in the monastery.

Earlier, after a thorough examination of Giri by a team of five doctors, Parthiwala was bathed at the confluence of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna and the legendary Saraswati. At around 3 pm, the mahants were given ‘Bhu Samadhi’ under a lemon tree.

After about two and a half hours of autopsy, the report was presented to the senior police officer in a sealed envelope. A large contingent of police was deployed at the morgue.

Uttar Pradesh police on Tuesday set up an 18-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the death of Mahant Narendra Giri and arrested one of his disciples from Haridwar. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said that all aspects related to the death were being investigated and the culprits would not be acquitted.

‘State government tries to hide the truth’

In Meerut, Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu demanded that the death of Narendra Giri be investigated by the CBI under the supervision of the High Court. He accused the state government of misleading the sadhu’s followers and trying to hide the truth. He questioned how the police had come to the conclusion that the murder was a suicide even before the northern investigation.
