Former MP Kirit Somaiya accused
Mumbai: Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya has accused Rural Development Minister and senior NCP leader Hasan Mushrif and his family members of embezzling Rs 127 crore through money laundering and anonymous transactions. Mushrif denied Somaiya’s allegations and said he would file a defamation suit against him for Rs 100 crore.
Somaiya has lodged a complaint with the Income Tax authorities against Hasan Mushrif, his wife Sahera and his son Naved. They will also lodge a complaint with the Directorate of Enforcement (ED).
There are several companies named after Mushrif and his family. Documents show that these companies had dealings with fake (shell) companies in Kolkata. The transactions in the bank accounts of Mushrif and his family show that they received income from non-existent companies. According to the affidavit filed by Naved Mushrif on his income while contesting the 2019 Assembly elections, it is seen that he has done financial transactions with many dubious companies. Naved is the shareholder of Sarsenapati Santaji Ghorpade Sugar Factory. “Documents show that the sugar factory has committed a number of financial launderings,” Somaiya said.
In his affidavit, Naved appears to have taken a loan of Rs 2 crore from CRM Systems and Rs 3.85 crore from Marubhumi Finance and Developers. Both the companies are based in Kolkata and their directors are Sikandar Desai, Alamgir Mujawar and Gopal Pawar. Sahera Hasan Mushrif owns 3,78,340 shares of Sarsenapati Santaji Ghorpade Sugar Factory. Mushrif was a cabinet minister from 2003 to 2014. Somaiya alleges that the Ghorpade sugar factory has received crores of rupees from shell companies during this period.
Mushrif denied the allegations
Hasan Mushrif said that Kirit Somaiya’s allegations were baseless and that he would file a criminal defamation suit against him for Rs 100 crore. Mushrif said baseless allegations were being made against NCP leaders. My house and factory were raided by the income tax department, they found nothing at that time. He also alleged that most of the state presidents Chandrakant Patil and Samarjit Ghatge had given some wrong information to Somaiya.
