The Income-tax department on Friday raided the offices of NewsClick and NewsLaundry in Delhi. However, the action was not called a raid by the income tax authorities, but a ‘survey action’.

The income tax officials said the survey was conducted to verify the tax payment details of NewsClick and NewsLaundry and the statements they submitted.

The Directorate of Recovery (ED) had raided the office of NewsClick and the residences of its founders last February in connection with the disproportionate assets case.

A case filed by Delhi Police had revealed that PPK NewsClick Studios had received Rs 9.59 crore in 2018-19 through foreign direct investment from Worldwide Media Holdings LLC USA. Friday’s raids by income tax officials are said to be a reference to the case.
