Increased corona infection in young children; Experts say, no worries but

The incidence of corona infection among children is on the rise in the country. According to the data available with Empowered Group-1, the number of children under the age of 10 has been steadily increasing in the second wave of corona in the country since March this year. According to statistics, the proportion of children between the ages of 1 and 10 in the total number of active cases of corona has increased from 2.80 per cent in March this year to 7.04 per cent in August. That means about seven out of every 100 active corona cases are children.

Experts say that increasing cases of coronary heart disease in the age group of 1 to 10 years may be a result of reduced coronary heart disease in adults. A data has been presented at the EG-1 meeting chaired by VK Paul, a member of the Policy Commission, in the presence of officials from various ministries, including the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. According to the data, in the nine months before March, June 2020 to February 2021, children in the age group of 1 to 10 were in the range of 2.72 per cent to 3.59 per cent of the total active cases.

What causes the increase in infection?

This report of Empowered Group-1 (EG-1) is important in many ways. Many experts say that the third wave of corona in the country is inevitable. Similarly, the wave has also raised fears of more infections in young children. Although no specific reason has been given for the growing incidence of coronary heart disease in young children, it is said that the increase may have been due to “exposure to the virus and more tests”.

“The number of children admitted to the hospital is higher than before. This is mainly due to two reasons. The first is great awareness and vigilance. The second is increased insecurity, ”the source said. According to the CERO survey, corona positivity in children is 57 to 58 percent.

Serious situations will not arise!

“Given the growing number of corona cases among children as a whole, we need to be more vigilant. The severity of the disease in children is certainly milder than in adults. Even so, owning one is still beyond the reach of the average person. Similarly, I do not think such a serious situation will arise, ”the sources said. The incidence of coronary heart disease in young children is said to be low. However, “the number of children admitted to the hospital has increased marginally. However, after the lesson learned from Kerala, the death rate has become more or less stable than before.

What are the precautions?

Asked about the strategy for tackling the growing corona infection situation in children, the sources said that vaccines like Biological E are in the process of getting the necessary approval for children under 10 years of age. At the same time, EG-1 had suggested that the next wave of corona, the third wave, could be more obstructive to children. As a precaution, 5 per cent ICU beds and 4 per cent non-ICU oxygen beds are reserved for children in hospitals as a precaution.
