New Delhi: BJP MP Varun Gandhi has sent a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath demanding increase in sugarcane prices, bonus for wheat and paddy crops, doubling of PM Kisan Yojana and subsidy on diesel.
Earlier, Varun Gandhi, a three-time MP from Uttar Pradesh, had called on the Center to hold talks with the agitating farmers.
Varun, an MP from Pilibhit, in a two-page letter to Adityanath, mentioned the problems and demands of the farmers and suggested solutions. In Uttar Pradesh, the current selling price of sugarcane is Rs 315 per quintal, which should be increased to Rs 400, Gandhi suggested. Sugarcane is mainly grown in western Uttar Pradesh. This area has become the center of the ongoing farmers’ agitation in the state against the Centre’s Agriculture Act. Apart from the minimum guaranteed price of wheat and paddy, a bonus of Rs 200 per quintal should be given, Varun said.
He demanded that the amount of Rs 6,000 given to farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme should be doubled to Rs 12,000 per annum and the state government should pay an additional Rs 6,000 from its own coffers. Agreeing with the concerns of the farmers about the rates of electricity and diesel, Varun has requested the Chief Minister to provide a subsidy of Rs 20 per liter on diesel and reduce the rates of electricity immediately.
