Many aspirants from the state to Congress

For Rajya Sabha by-election

Mumbai: A by-election will be held on October 4 for a Rajya Sabha seat vacated by the death of Rajiv Satav. Though many in the Congress are keen for the MP’s post, the party is considering fielding Satav’s wife.

Rajiv Satav passed away in May due to corona. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi had attended Satav’s mourning rally and then Rahul had stated that he would take care of Satav’s family. Satav’s mother and wife had recently met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. In the list of state Congress office bearers announced last month, Satav’s wife Dr. Pragya Satav was appointed as the Vice President. It is believed that this will give a chance to Satav’s wife in the Rajya Sabha.

Many veteran leaders of the party are aspiring for this Rajya Sabha seat. The general secretaries of the party are Mukul Wasnik, Sanjay Nirupam, Milind Deora, Rajni Patil and others. Former Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad is also expected to be given a chance in the Rajya Sabha by the party from Maharashtra or Tamil Nadu.
