New Delhi: In the year 2020, 50035 cyber crimes were registered in the country. This is an increase of 11.8 per cent over the previous year. In addition, 578 cases of “false news on social media” were reported this year, according to figures from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
The rate of cyber crime (incidents per one lakh population) has increased from 3.3 per cent in 2019 to 3.7 per cent in 2020, it said. In 2019, 44,735 cases of cyber crime were registered in the country. In 2018, this number was 27,248.
These crimes included 4,047 cases of online banking scam, 1,093 cases of OTP scam and 1,194 cases of credit / debit card scam, while 2,160 cases related to ATMs were registered in the year 2020.
