Request to register 736 Afghan nationals in India

From August 1 to September 11, a total of 736 Afghan nationals have registered for new registrations in India; The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said in a statement that it was “increasing its capacity to respond to growing requests for registration and assistance of Afghan nationals in India.”

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says it is in constant contact with the government on issues related to the issuance of visas to Afghan nationals, extending their deadlines, providing assistance and finding solutions to their problems.

According to statistics, the total number of persons in India affiliated to UNHCR is 43,157. Of these, 15,559 are refugees and asylum seekers in Afghanistan. “From August 1 to September 11, UNHCR registered 736 Afghans for new registration,” it said.

Those contacted by UNHCR include newly arrived Afghans in 2021, people seeking reopening of previously closed asylum cases, students, entrepreneurs, or people on medical or other visas who cannot return due to the current situation in Afghanistan.
