A total of 3 crore 33 lakh 81 thousand 728 people have been infected with corona so far, while the total number of victims has reached 4 lakh 44 thousand 248. The death toll was 1.33 per cent, according to data released by the Union Health Ministry.

Strict restrictions in Sri Lanka till October 1
The Sri Lankan government on Friday decided to extend the lockout until October 1 due to the steadily rising number of corona patients in Sri Lanka and mounting pressure from local doctors to deal effectively with the third wave.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by President Gotabay Rajapaksa. Earlier, the president had announced a 10-day moratorium on August 20. He was then given an extension till September 21. The lockout was to be lifted on September 21. However, the country is not yet free from the threat of corona due to non-compliance with the embargo restrictions, the health ministry said, prompting President Gotabay Rajapaksa to extend the embargo till October 1. At present around 2300 patients are found there every day. So far 11 thousand 817 people have died there and the total number of patients has reached 4 lakh 98 thousand 694.
