Shocking: Bodies in coffin disappear from Mumbai to Prayagraj train

A family in Mumbai, who were carrying the body of a relative by train at Prayagraj, was shocked on Monday. Angry relatives rioted at Prayagraj station after learning that the body had disappeared from the coffin kept in the guard box of the Mumbai-Varanasi Special Express. A woman from Barhupur village in Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh died while undergoing treatment in Mumbai. The woman’s body was placed in a coffin and her family was traveling to Uttar Pradesh by train. On the way, the body disappeared from the coffin. When the train reached Prayagraj station late on Monday night, no body was found in the coffin in the guard’s compartment. The search for the body was started after a complaint from relatives.

According to the Times of India, Sarwari Begum, 56, wife of Wahab Sheikh, a resident of Barhupur in Pratapgad Patti tehsil, was suffering from a serious illness. He is undergoing treatment at the Tata Hospital in Mumbai. He died Saturday during treatment. Sarwari’s last wish was to be buried near his village. Sarfaraz, Gufran, Gulfam and Farin made reservations for the Kurla-Varanasi Festival Special Train to take their mother to Earth. The body was placed in a coffin and placed in a parcel box. The family was traveling in another coach with the train. When the train reached Prayagraj station at eleven o’clock on Monday night, they went to unload the bodies from the guard box. After much searching, they did not find the body.

After a 12-hour search, the body was found at a distance of 202 km on the tracks near Maihar station in Madhya Pradesh. The body was handed over to the family on Tuesday evening. He has since been brought to Prayagraj. Meanwhile, questions remain as to how the bodies came out. According to railway security forces, the coffin overturned in an empty box and the body collapsed. The families have accused the railway administration of negligence.

The body of a woman went missing from the coffin of a train bound for Varanasi and was later found 202 km away. Sarfari Sheikh’s son Gulfam Sheikh works in Bhiwandi. Sarwari Sheikh had brought him to Mumbai in July. She was staying at a relative’s house in Dharavi and was undergoing treatment at the Tata Memorial Hospital. He died Sunday morning. His family decided to take his body to his native place for burial. The family submitted all the documents along with the death certificate to the Municipal Corporation to take the body by train.

At 9 pm on Monday, when the family landed at Prayagraj and went to collect the bodies from the ‘guard’ box. They found the coffin light and opened it. He immediately informed the railway police about the missing body. Senior GRP officials visited the spot and informed the main control room as well as all the major railway stations where the train had stopped.

A complaint was then lodged, and about 25 railway stations and tracks were inspected. Police found the body lying on the tracks near Maihar station, 202 km away. An RPF team recovered the body at Maihar on Tuesday afternoon and handed it over to the family in Prayagraj late at night.
