According to the Crime Report for the year 2020, although the crime rate against women has come down, it has increased significantly in West Bengal and Odisha during the same period. Also, the statistics show that the highest number of crimes committed by husbands or other family members is in the statistics of the country.
According to the NCRB report released on Tuesday, the number of reported cases of violence against women has declined by 8.3 per cent in 2020 as compared to 2019. In 2019, this number was 4 lakh 5 thousand 326, in 2020 it has come down to 3 lakh 71 thousand 503.
The country’s capital, Delhi, has seen a decline in crimes against women. In Delhi, 13 thousand 395 crimes were registered in 2019, while in 2020 it has come down to 10 thousand 93. In Uttar Pradesh too, the number has gone up from 59,853 to 49,385.
In particular, the lowest rate of rape was recorded at 7.5 per cent. Out of 3 lakh 71 thousand 503 cases of crimes against women registered in 2020, 35 thousand 331 cases have taken place in major cities of the country. It is also clear that this proportion has decreased by 21.1 per cent as compared to 2019. The figures show a decline as the first wave of corona in the country has seen a complete lockout.
More than 50,000 cyber crimes recorded
In 2020, there were 5,035 cyber crimes in the country. This is an increase of 11.8 per cent over the previous year. In addition, 578 incidents of ‘false news on social media’ were reported this year. The rate of cyber crime has increased from 3.3 per cent in 2019 to 3.7 per cent in 2020, it said. In 2019, 44,735 cases of cyber crime were registered in the country.
