W. Bengal Assembly Speaker summons CBI, ED officials

He will seek clarification on the chargesheet filed against the MLA

“We have summoned senior officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on September 22 to explain why the Speaker’s office did not seek permission before filing chargesheets against West Bengal MLAs,” Assembly Speaker Viman Bandopadhyay said on Monday.

Bandopadhyay said the president’s office was not informed and permission was not sought while initiating action against the elected representatives. The two central bodies have filed chargesheets against several MLAs, including ruling Trinamool Congress ministers, for their alleged involvement in the Panji scam and the Narad sting case and have summoned them for questioning.

“I have sought clarification from the CBI and the ED as to why the President’s office is not being informed while filing chargesheets against MLAs and summoning them,” he said. A letter to this effect has been sent to the city offices of both the agencies, ‘Bandopadhyay told PTI. “I have asked the authorities to come to the assembly on September 22 and explain why you took action without informing me and without my prior permission,” Bandopadhyay said.
